DIABETES THE FOCUS OF 2 FREE UPCOMING EVENTS AT CTMC
SAN MARCOS, TX – Are you a diabetic who is unsure about taking insulin?
Diabetes patient Steve Willie knows that fear and uncertainty first-hand and will soon deliver a free, one-hour education program at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) where he will share his personal experiences with diabetes and taking insulin to control his blood sugar.
Managing Diabetes: The Next Step will take place on Sept. 26 at 6 p.m. in the CTMC Community Classroom, located at 1301 Wonder World Drive.
Willie is a specially trained member of the A1C Champions® program, supported by Sanofi US, which provides a patient-led approach to diabetes education. He has diabetes and takes insulin as part of his overall diabetes treatment plan that includes diet, exercise and other diabetes medications.
“If I can maintain control of my diabetes, then others can, too,” Willie said. “I don’t have any special or magical powers; I just use the resources that are available to me.
Willie’s presentation will address the following topics:
· Why insulin is not a sign of failure but a treatment that may help you achieve blood sugar control as part of an overall diabetes treatment plan
· The concerns he had about starting insulin
· Misperceptions about insulin
Willie is a person with diabetes who understands the challenges to controlling blood sugar and starting insulin. He would like to help others in their journey with diabetes. For questions or to learn more about this event, please call CTMC Diabetes Educator Mario Torres at (512) 753-3706.
CTMC will also host its 5th annual Diabetes Dialogue Day on Nov. 9 from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the CTMC Main Lobby. The event will include diabetes-related exhibitors, screenings and speakers. Diabetes Dialogue Day is free to the community, but space is limited. The hospital, which originated in 1923 as Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, was restructured in 1960. The present facility was opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983.
