CTMC honors 11 outstanding area high school seniors with scholarships

CTMC HONORS 11 OUTSTANDING AREA HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS WITH SCHOLARSHIPS
SAN MARCOS, TX – Because of their academic achievements, community involvement and future career goals, a total of 11 outstanding area high school seniors were awarded with a scholarship from Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) on May 23. Each of the following students were awarded $1,000, which may be applied to tuition, books and/or living expenses during their first year in college.

· Bethany Voight – Lockhart High School
· Jiovanna Llamas – Lockhart High School
· Rebecca Cox – San Marcos Academy
· Amber Alaniz – San Marcos High School
· Amanda Barrientos – San Marcos High School
· Adolynn Newton – San Marcos High School
· Francisco Torres – San Marcos High School
· Nicola Rojas – San Marcos High School
· Zachary Tierney – Wimberley High School
· Holly McCuistion – Wimberley High School
As evidence of its efforts to extend its mission beyond caring for patients, CTMC has been awarding scholarships to area high school seniors since 1997. This year the hospital gave $11,000 in scholarships, making it the most CTMC has ever awarded in one year.
“CTMC is extremely proud of these students for their academic and leadership successes,” said Clay DeStefano, CTMC Administrative Director of PR and Marketing. “We are pleased to have the opportunity to reward such deserving students with funds that will help them in their upcoming college careers.”

About CTMC
The hospital, which originated in 1923 as Hays County Soldiers, Sailors and Marines Memorial Hospital, was restructured in 1960. The present facility was opened at its current Wonder World Drive location in 1983. The CTMC staff of more than 700 employees works with more than 220 active and consulting physicians to provide quality services to patients and their families.
In addition, over 200 community members and interns from area educational institutions volunteer their services to the hospital. In 2010, 2011 and 2012, CTMC was named The Best Hospital in Hays County. CTMC also added a certified Chest Pain Center to its ER capabilities in 2011. In 2012, CTMC became the first operating room along the IH-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio to be equipped with a da Vinci robotic-assisted surgery suite.
