Healthy Food Drive Challenge
April 1st - May 15th
We challenge you to host a month long healthy food drive to benefit the hungry in Hays COunty.
The Food Bank's shelves get low in late spring/early summer, and we need the community to come to the rescue.
So we challeneg companies, organizations, civic groups, schools, departments, groups, churches, etc. to gather food from April 1st until May 15th. Drop off all food in the following 2 weeks, and we will weigh and announce a winner via social media by May 30th.

Capital for Texas Small Business Forum
The Texas Department of Agriculture is excited to host a small business forum during National Small Business Week. This year’s theme is: “Dream Big, Start Small.” During this free event, we aim to celebrate and promote small, minority, veteran, woman, disadvantaged and historically underutilized businesses.
The forum is an introduction to TDA’s new Capital for Texas (C4T) small business loan program. C4T is designed to increase rural and other under-served communities small businesses’ access to capital and enable private entrepreneurs to make market-driven decisions to grow jobs, assist their growth potential and employment capabilities through partnering community development financial institutions.
This program supports TDA’s goals of empowering rural communities and cultivating winning strategies for rural Texas, by providing finance options to small businesses and manufacturers that are creditworthy, but are not getting the loans they need to expand and create jobs.
All industries are encouraged to attend. The event features a session on access to capital presented by the partnering community development financial institutions, highly informative presentations on how to grow your business by becoming certified as a GO TEXAN member and as a HUB, DBE, WBE, MBE and/or SBE, and a power networking session with some of the featured presenters and other invited guests.
To show our appreciation for the hard work, dedication and contributions small businesses make to the economy, there will be a raffle drawing held during the Power Networking Session. In order to be eligible for the drawing, you must register and attend the morning session. | On May 30th, the Commemorative Air Force’s Central Texas Wing will host a Memorial Day Open House at the San Marcos airport. Come out and celebrate the service and sacrifice that members of all the armed forces have contributed to keep our country free. Memorial Day is a day to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Bring the entire family plus there is no admission charge. The Central Texas Wing will have their vintage historic aircraft on static display and our World War II hangar, Aviation Library, Museum, and Gift Shop will be open. Come see our P-39 Airacobra, one of only 2 flyable remaining, a U.S. Navy C-45 almost completely restored and ready to fly, AT-6 advanced trainers, and a USMC OY-1 Sentinal that was actually flown in the Pacific in WW II. Additionally, a 1916 Republic military truck that is in restoration, a fully restored 1942 Willy’s US Army Jeep, and sit in the actual cockpit of a Navy A-4 Blue Angels jet fighter. A great photo opportunity. |
